Shelby Vcelka joined the Disparti Law Group as an Associate Attorney in 2018. She focuses on issues concerning Social Security Disability benefits and advocating for the rights of people with disabilities.
Prior to joining Disparti Law Group, Shelby clerked for the Cook County Public Defender’s Office and was a Student Attorney at the Disability Rights Clinic at Syracuse University. She is passionate about pursuing justice on behalf of individuals who are often on the margins of the justice system. She also worked for the Social Security Administration and knows the agency inside and out.
While not advocating on behalf of people with disabilities, Shelby enjoys hiking, knitting, visiting National Parks, and traveling. Her favorite things include a big cup of tea, a good book, and spending time with her rescue cats. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Shelby received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, where she double majored in History and Political Science. In 2017, Shelby graduated from Syracuse University College of Law with her Juris Doctorate. During law school, she completed the Disability Law and Policy Program and earned a certificate in Disability Law. She was also a Managing Editor of the international human rights journal, Impunity Watch.
