While in law school, Maria was a legal intern at the Legal Services Center of FIU. During this time she represented clients in a number of health-related areas, including: Medicaid eligibility, Social Security disability benefits, estate planning, and elder law. Additionally, Maria also worked with Florida Legal Services and Young Invincibles to support Medicaid expansion in Florida. Maria advocated directly to Florida legislators and participated in community outreach events to educate individuals on the coverage gap.
