In less than fourteen hours, 1,000 people from across Chicagoland registered to receive a free $20 voucher for a safe Uber ride home on New Year’s Eve.
According to the Illinois State Police, New Year’s Eve is one of the most dangerous nights of the year when it comes to intoxicated drivers. Their officers will be patrolling our expressways and streets as will many of the other more than 850 law enforcement agencies across Illinois. “A DUI can cost someone their license, their car, their job, and as much as $75,000 not including any injuries or even deaths that could occur from an accident,” says Attorney Larry Disparti.
In an effort to help keep Chicagoland safe this New Year’s Weekend, Disparti Law Group Accident & Injury Lawyers gave away 1,000 Uber vouchers worth $20 each to encourage drivers who were planning on drinking to find a more responsible way home. And this year, a record number of people used their vouchers.
Greg M. saw a commercial for the program while watching TV and decided to sign up. On New Year’s Eve, he was out with his girlfriend celebrating at a friend’s house on the opposite side of town. He used the voucher to get home. “Too many people have lost a loved one due to a drunk driving accident and so I appreciate Mr. Disparti’s generosity, and more so that he cares about making Chicago safer,” remarked Greg.
“If we can prevent one accident, this program has made a difference,” says Disparti about the Ride Free NYE.
